About The Procedure

Aging often results in the reduced skin elasticity in the upper arms. Gravity may assist the relaxed skin in separating from the underlying tissue, creating a "bat wing" appearance under the arm.

An arm lift can be performed to tighten the skin and remove the fat that creates this appearance. An incision is placed strategically along the inner arm in as inconspicuous a location as possible while allowing the surgeon good access to the affected tissue beneath. Excess skin and fat are then removed through the incision and the remaining skin is tightened and secured with sutures and bandaged.

Patients are placed under twilight anesthesia during the procedure.

Recovery

A compression garment is used to reduce swelling and support the new contours of the arm(s). Recovery lasts for five to seven days. Strenuous exercise is not recommended until four weeks post surgery.
