About The Procedure

Gynecomastia surgery involves the removal of excess skin from around the male areola, and occasionally includes the removal of excessive breast tissue and fat. The patient is placed under twilight or general anesthesia. A small incision (less than 1/2 an inch) is made around the areola, into which an ultrasonic probe (cannula) is inserted to liquefy and remove fat deposits beneath the skin.

If large amounts of fat are removed, excess skin may have to be removed as well to suit the smaller breast shape, and the areola may also be made proportionately smaller.

Recovery

Recovery generally lasts 3 to 5 days after gynecomastia surgery. A support garment is recommended for about a month following the procedure, and light exercise may resume after two to three weeks.
