Thinking About Liposuction?

One of our most requested cosmetic procedures is liposuction which is the removal of fat from specific parts of the body. With this procedure, the body is sculpted to the desired proportion by the removal of stubborn fat that just won’t go away. While liposuction can help you get rid of that final layer of flub, it should never be a replacement for diet and exercise. In fact, the best candidates for this procedure are individuals who are close to normal weight with relativity firm and elastic skin. Though age doesn’t play a major factor when considering liposuction, it should be noted that older individuals usually have less elasticity in their skin which may play a part in the body reshaping itself.

How is it done?

There are a number of ways in which the liposuction procedure can take place. Before the procedure, the area is numbed with local anesthetic. Though the patient is awake during the procedure, they feel no discomfort.

Traditionally, a small incision is made in the problem area, a narrow tube is inserted, and the fat is vacuumed out. However, there is another, more precise procedure known as Ultrasonic-Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL) which is growing in popularity. This procedure also removes fat through a small incision, but uses a special tube that produces ultrasonic energy. This energy breaks down the fat and turns it into liquid, while also moving at a rate of 22,000 times per second and less than a thousandth of an inch allowing for precise results. This procedure is very useful when it comes to body areas that have dense fat deposits suck as the back and male breasts.

Recovery time for liposuction is usually less than a week and bruising/swelling is to be expected following the procedure. Because the initial incision is very small, scarring is virtually unnoticeable. Click here to view a gallery of our liposuction work.
