What is Dermaplaning and Who Can Most Benefit?

According to legend, Cleopatra, Marilyn Monroe, and Elizabeth Taylor all knew the secret to glowing, supple, facial skin: shaving.

Although it may sound like a new and very strange idea, exfoliating with a sharp blade is a procedure that doctors have offered for decades—or centuries if the story about Cleopatra can be believed.

Dermaplaning is a safe, straightforward procedure for exfoliating skin, not at all associated with or similar to dermabrasion. Anyone who wants deep exfoliation without chemicals or has excess vellus hair on their skin can benefit from dermaplaning.

Most commonly dermaplaning is used on patients who are pregnant or nursing and want to avoid unnecessary exposure to chemicals of all kinds, or pateints with rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, tattoos, mild acne scarring, or fine lines and wrinkles.

Dermaplaning is popular with doctors and patients because it’s simple to perform, there’s very little—if any—downtime, and the results are smooth, glowing, younger-looking skin.

This procedure, very similar to when a man shaves his face, is extremely safe when performed by a professionally trained and licensed provider.  We only offer dermaplaning on the forehead, cheeks and chin of the face.

Another benefit form dermaplaning is that it increases the efficacy and penetration of topical ingredients, or in other words, healing, rejuvenating skin creams and treatments are more easily absorbed after a dermaplaning treatment.

If you are interested in finding out how you can have younger-looking facial skin, contact our office to set up a free consultation. We will explain the procedure and answer any questions you have.
